UTSW Neuroscience Translational Research Center (NTRC)

Overview of NTRC Services:

The Perot Foundation Neuroscience Translational Research Center (NTRC), supported by the Peter O'Donnell Jr. Brain Institute, is a service offered to fully support the clinical research needs in the neurosciences at UT Southwestern and its affiliated hospitals. Our teams provide research development assistance including biostatistics, study organization and ongoing coordinator support, preparation for publications, biospecimen collection and processing. The NTRC is divided into three distinct teams:

  1. Clinical Research Operations - a core team of skilled research professionals who specialize in all areas of clinical research in the neurosciences including adults and pediatrics (services to be requested in this program).
  2. Grants and Contracts Acquisitions - a talented team who creates, develops, and plans for the implementation of research projects by providing grant and contract support. Services range from budget creation and negotiations for clinical trials and grant submissions; grant identification, preparation and submissions; grant and manuscript writing and administrative support, clinical trials financial feasibility and direct correspondence with sponsors, including billing for services.
  3. Neurosciences Biorepository - a team of scientists who adhere to the highest ethical standards to acquire human biospecimens for a myriad of diseases that are centrally stored and available for research requests.

Only the core services of the Clinical Research Operations team (i.e. Coordinators and Nurses) may be requested in this link.

Services offered by the NTRC Clinical Research Operations Team:

  • Research coordinators and research nurses who screen, consent and enroll study participants in study protocols; conduct research procedures and assessments; prepare IRB submissions and provide ongoing regulatory support for PIs conducting research at UTSW and its affiliated hospitals, including Children's and Parkland. Collect and record data, and work closely with the finance personnel to appropriately bill the study sponsors for completed procedures.
  • The NTRC utilizes four outpatient exam rooms in Aston Ambulatory Center and has a dedicated laboratory processing space with temporary storage for study related samples including a -80 freezer, and storage for dry ice. All Core members are trained and credentialied to handle and ship biological samples.
  • Phlebotomy services.
