UTSW Perot Foundation Neuroscience Translational Research Center (PNTRC)

Overview of PNTRC Services:

The Perot Foundation Neuroscience Translational Research Center (NTRC), a Core in the Peter O'Donnell Jr. Brain Institute, is comprised of services offered to support the clinical research needs for providers at UT Southwestern Medical Center and its affiliated hospitals. Our teams offer research assistance including biostatistics, study organization and ongoing coordinator support, regulatory support, biospecimen collection, processing, and banking. The NTRC is divided into three teams:

  1. Clinical Research Core (Neurosciences Clinical Research Unit) - a core team of skilled research professionals who specialize in all areas of clinical research in the neurosciences involving adults and pediatric patients.
  2. Contracts Acquisitions and Management - a talented team who create, develop, and plan for the implementation of research projects by providing contractual support. Services range from budget creation and negotiations for clinical trials; submission of Clinical Trial Coverage Analyses, administrative and regulatory support, financial feasibility surveys, direct correspondence with sponsors, billing for services to sponsors, and submissions to Sponsored Programs and Contracts Management offices.
  3. CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE: Neurosciences Biorepository Core - a team of researchers who adhere to the highest ethical standards to acquire human biospecimens for a myriad of diseases that are centrally stored at UTSW and available for research requests.

Services offered by the PNTRC Core:

  • Research coordinators and research nurses screen, consent and enroll study participants in study protocols; conduct research procedures and assessments; prepare IRB submissions and provide ongoing regulatory support for PIs conducting research at UTSW and its affiliated hospitals, including Children's Health and Parkland. Our team collects and records research data and works closely with the PI's departmental financial personnel to appropriately invoice study sponsors for completed procedures.
  • All Core members are trained and credentialied to handle, process, and ship biological specimens via IATA, and are HSP and GCP certified.
  • Most PNTRC Core members are trained to perform phlebotomy and EKGs, and undergo annual competency checks.
  • Many PNTRC members are nationally certified through professional organizations in Clinical Research such as ACRP and SoCRA.
  • Our dedicated Compliance Manager performs onboarding, ongoing education, audits, and assistance during formal audits performed by HRPP, Sponsor, or external agencies, such as FDA.
